Hey, country music lovers, did you know June was the National Accordion Awareness Month? Yup, that's true. In 1989, National Accordion Awareness Month was established to spread the word about the resurgence in popularity of this instrument and to educate people about it.
Now, did you know that your favorite wire wrangler and boss lady here at Buckaroo Bling used to be an accordion player too? Yes, truer than true! I even went to music school for full six years to perfect my accordion playing skills. Unfortunately, there weren't many opportunities for a professional accordionist when I was growing up, so I had to choose a different career, and the accordion fell by the wayside. Matter of fact, I haven't even touched it in about 20 years now. I doubt I'd be able to produce any kind of pleasing music if someone asked me to play today.
There is someone who plays a mean accordion though. He was even called the "greatest accordion player in the world," and he worked with country music greats the likes of Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Charlie Daniels, and Shania Twain. He won Grammy awards, worked in film and television, and was a key member of Grand Ole Opry group Riders In The Sky. Have you, folks, heard of Joey Miskulin? If you haven't, hear him play with Riders In The Sky in the video clip below.
So, how are you going to honor the National Accordion Awareness Month? Let me know in the comments below. Not into accordion music? You can always visit Buckaroo Bling website and make my switch from accordion playing to jewelry making worthwhile.
